Patents take anywhere from 3 to five years to be granted, deals are done on patent pending on regular bases as long as the interested party does their IP search through their lawyers to clear the way to sign a deal.
If the resulting investigation comes through with no potential overlap or IP violation of someone else intellectual property, the deal goes ahead.
