correct me if I'm wrong, but WBT reached 1Mb in a lab without qualifying it in a fab (scheduled in late 2020). This is a major difference and something 4DS intentionally avoided from what Dr Guido Arnout said in his last interview.

4DS could have taken the cheap route of developing a 1Mb chip in a lab but decided to go down the fabrication path which is what industry leaders the likes of Western Digital want on hand.

The relation with IMEC is not to prove the science, this was already done with Western Digital. 4DS and IMEC are transferring the science from lab to fab building a production process that requires no retooling.
