As someone who has read a bit of history I have always held an image of gold being a cornerstone of value and support of the power structure in most if not all past civilizations,my fear at the moment is that the current prevailing economic hegemony could be suspected of "destroying" the power of gold in favour of more traceable digital forms of ownership and wealth. However the above may also be the ramblings of a naive observer!!
