Because at the time investors didn't know. I've written about this before and yup...it sucks. But if we take the logic that you're applying, then why would anybody have bought shares at 10, 11 or 12 dollars? Why buy them even now? How do you know that the shares wont plummet even further? Maybe we should all just sell up right now? Who's gunna ring the bell and tell us when it's the exact right time to top up? Are you gunna ring that bell? Somehow, I don't think so...

If you're still invested in DDR, then surely you believe that the share price will appreciate over time? So when the share price is back to 12 bucks, is someone's allocation via the DRP at $10.41 worthwhile or not?

I'll continue to participate in the DRP. Means I don't have to think about compounding my holdings or trying to time the next event when the CEO decides to sell up and buy another divorce. Sorry that I'm individually responsible for diluting your dividends. Unfortunately though, with each passing quarter, I get allocated even more shares and basically invest in DDR through dollar cost averaging. It's the same process I follow with my ETF/LIC investments and individual holdings. Overpay, underpay...whatever. Just let it grow. Bit like the stringless beans I bought from the supermarket yesterday. $25 a kilo. last week they were $19.99/kg. I should've loaded up last week, but I had no idea that the price would rise. And I really needed them for the beef casserole that I make and as per usual, I buy 5 string beans too many and pay more than I should. But it's a staple ingredient and adds that element of quality to the casserole concoction. So I don't mind paying up that little bit more for small quantities and I really don't care that I've just diluted the volume on the shelves and left the bruised and discoloured ones for some other sucker to buy.
