Yeah - no disrespect to Mr Spreadborough, he has some good experience and contacts in the past from Sandfire and Inova but I think this really just highlights what a poisoned chalice the MLX CEO job is.
I would imagine that MLX with its Nifty baggage would only really interest "deal makers" and "turnaround specialists". Even the most optimistic "turnaround specialist" would hesitate with Nifty being percieved as a lost cause and Rennison running fine so no need for a turnaround there. And the "deal-makers" seemingly aren't interested in the job as maybe too many opportunities elsewhere in the industry?
I would imagine Mike Spreadborough's to do list would be something like this:
1. Talk to SFR about exploration JV's near Nifty
2. Talk to SFR about exploration JV's near Nifty
3. Talk to SFR about exploration JV's near Nifty
4. Talk to SFR about exploration JV's near Nifty
5. Talk to other interested parties about exploration JV's near Nifty
6. Keep an eye on Rennison
7. Keep an eye on when copper prices come out of the toilet.
