I think you have hit some points here. The stage of development is one. And yes, Simon could have been poached. Cannot let that happen. We would be really sunk.
Time will tell as you say, I hope Simon is able to speak more freely when he is satisfied with the technical schedule for qubits and how exactly he plans to scale the qubits. This will give him the platform to speak to investors in terms of cost of development. If these carbon qubit films exceed expectations, he will have to actually say those words out loud and not have it buried in a print announcement. Confidence has to be seen.
But of course if defence dept is ready to go test the qubits and decide if it needs to be protected for sovereign reasons, then it doesn't matter much what Simon says in public.
If government needs to be persuaded, then have to do what Psiquantum does and speak often.
