Agreed![]()
Though general shareholder investors not being greatly respected. Promotion of the company to investors now and communication non- existent practically .
Am from whole of life agricultural background, unfortunately not significant really as started from nothing, as my parents and few siblings also did - so did directly experience a fair deal.
including grassroots landcare and my parents and my growing up was with no tillage/ building up soil etc, better farming practices (they 2nd gen) & have seen others especially do a myriad of things with immense work and admin — for additional income generation of course as employment for wives was not greatly possible off - farm and while raising children & educating them etc under roof.
Everything always fails if not ongoing fulltime hardwork & lovely and down to earth people supporting, and if not broadly established or establishing industries. ( which takes decades, inc for synergies & associations and to be regionally at least established and accepted) - inc also with inevitable price squeeze downs & with time failure as prob inferior lower standards and regulations offerings or ultra cheap from bigger factory scale from globally will materialise if successful enterprise type is highly profitable.
Everything from boutique or handmade items, teddies or kids clothes or whatever to jams/ condiments/ honey and produce every type. It only works as cottage level or locally marketed more enterprises.
Saffron farming anyone?
Glad to be nowhere near boutique manic type endeavours -roping in ‘passionate “ locals for employment in school hours, or also people becoming some sort of ‘pioneer ‘ respected establishing wonderful enterprises- whether eucalyptus foliage, grapes, or small olive areas, growing beneficial predator insects even- need practically slave labour or a lot of money as a project that family or partner gets into. (kids & friends or weekend campaign work, research students and oseas backpackers all utilised ) for small pilot type enterprises.
These people were and are all lovely people however and many voluntary local establishments survive due to efforts tremendously good people.
People don’t acknowledge how hard it is for quality protein food producers & how scale is truly needed .
We don’t afford to of course pay real prices that required to be charged for the produce.
My parents area- Super funds ,and Gina Rinehart also has come in, bought the iconic generational farms built up over the past 90 years. The latest super funds purchases, notably not wanting tricky parcels of land or along creeks etc - but big easy tracts of farmland that can operate with GPS guided machinery easily and at scale. Keeping on very experienced associated family worker operators or usually successful farm machinery contracting operators with longtime farms also of their own.
Farming and agriculture now is highly regarded compared to when I was involved still directly, constant stressors then, and don’t miss it at all or glad to not have to worry is more the truth. I highly educated and was always the off - farm income and children all educated and gone on- but 3rd and 4th generation young farmers living good lives and doing well working hard if fortunate to have had the opportunity, now sitting on extremely valuable assets
Maggie Beer is not such an asset , more an icon and MBH not been best custodian shareholders capital by looks -
Though enabled them to really raise money and expand as have - inc with real assets , land / Paris cheese property I wish could be sold ?
Maggie Beer and I guess her beneficiaries ( if anything happens to her) , hold substantially, but now the directors have also really bought in .
I would like them to take it to private & I get the few cents more it owes me back.
But it’s interesting to have followed. And hopefully this explains why I stupid enough to hold the stock. You sort of have to be and think outside the square to the value , and learn about the overall picture inc globally esp- if in any food or agriculture asset.
I think the land and assets values have reached the point, so extremely valuable - with so much more to be automated wrt operations in every facet producing anything into the future ++ ever more liability . And that current generation human capital will not be understood or as respected in a decade or so ahead- I think it is overall time for non- corporate, family owned assets where elderly founders still alive - to sell.
There should not be plans unless very compelling and the right people are really in place with truly best character and ethos etc - to continue into beyond 3rd generation, usually.
If taken more corporately by this point. Management should be in hands best people for the roles, not family members as Ceos. Though they need not lose control their company- hence chair sort of oversight-, unfortunately agree that usually won’t be best for general shareholders until some sort of sale or realisation events occur
I thought about this and my flawed buying here- this is my most recent Maggie Beer buy , and this week actually:
I recommend buying at a discount, tiny purchases only.
I still buy Tassal salmon routinely - also on a special or discount .
Hopefully then enjoy - & all works out in the end.
‘You can take the country out of the girl - but “ etc![]()
Bought and live on a few acres still, and built up the soil and ground and grown everything a lot and love the native wildlife about the extent of me now for home concerns. Near significant everything now, and grateful for being able to do things I never had time or ability to do when in the country fully & looking after everything and everyone.
In my fridge this week picked up though -
Not a recommendation for anyone else excepting for buying discounted products ,esp & only when can make use of quality products & use or enjoy.
And be glad if near multiple major supermarkets with endless produce 12 hrs every day ++
Which is the best farming advice that can also give.
(No1 am into resources out of it all which very much enjoy as is arms- length from more urban home, & noone gets hurt usually as an investor as not dealing with day to day business and weather and global + ongoing dramas. Am/ was a health professional, so really I have no idea)
End of month today - a few share prices might be interesting final printed prices for the month.
I don’t expect that MBH will.
Company needs vibrant driven qualified visible MD and management- if was intending to expand and grow and prosper for all shareholders.
