Its the MD role, which is much larger than a geotechnical role and encompasses the whole company, fair enough it was the COO role, youd want someone with geotechnical / geological expertise.
Have a look at the MD of LTR no geotechnical qualifications, same with the CEO of CXO, there are many MDs and CEOs out there that do just fine as an MD of a resources company.
