If you look closer at the books, the Mt Garnet copper operation was the only one making money. The problem was not due to operations, it was due to management, trying to show why they should be paid the big bucks and then falling on their asses.
Too much debt, refusal to work with smaller companies (such as CSD), and then bad timing with the fallout of the GFC. Dollar went up, commodity prices sunk... A double whammy.
Even now the zinc prices are not condusive to start-up, but perhaps sometime in the future, once circumstances change then who knows. It's just another cog on the roller-coaster.
