He has an impressive CV. As well as being WA Treasurer he was also for a while Minister for Energy.
The political aspect does not hurt. WPL has always needed a good relationship with the WA government.
It was support from the government of Sir Charles Court that helped give the NWSJV a leg up in the first place. Since then WPL has needed to navigate whale migrations, destruction of Aboriginal rock art on the Burrup, the Browse LNG on shore project, offshore Aboriginal artifacts legislation, etc. All that WPL has given back in return is the small matter of billions in royalties over the years.
Anyway, Ben should do well.
