Commiserations to all here who invested - I feel for you and I know how it feels, having experienced similar receivership scenarios a number of times.
Unfortunately, it's the same old story - investing in developers is very risky, especially when the technology is new or something new is being tried out. And especially when the company concerned is relatively small and takes on lots of debt for the development. Unless things go exactly as planned, things can turn pear shaped very quickly.
Longer term I do believe SOP production in Australia will be successful. Maybe a major like Rio etc will take this on (they'll likely buy it for next to nothing). They will then slowly improve the plants performance and they have the funds available to persevere and invest so over time they maximise plant performance and more importantly learn what to do and what not to do with SOP developments. They can then use this intellectual property and knowledge to develop other similar projects without making the mistakes that the early developers KLL and SO4 made.
