I don't necessarily think that the new CEO's salary is low. Based on some preliminary research, I found that the average CEO salary in California for a small company is around $200k. There are, of course, other factors in play, such as how old the company is, how many employees it has, prior experience and education of the candidate, etc.
I don't think that the new CEO held the same executive position prior, so it sounds like this is a new position for him. We may not yet know what other compensations are in place, such as stock, etc.
So, if it seems low, that might not be such a bad thing. A CEO taking a modest salary is not unheard of.
