Proto Resources & Investments shares up 300% on drilling success in Northern Territory

New investors in Proto Resources & Investments (ASX: PRW) must have thought all their Christmases had come at once with today's announcement of drilling success with the first diamond drill hole at 80% owned Lindeman's Bore prospect in the northern Territory.

The share price shot up over 300% with over 32 million shares traded.

Proto intersected a 15 metre wide zone of visible copper mineralisation in a new 751 metre deep Lindeman’s Bore drill hole, southwest of Katherine. The hole is the first to test the project’s identified “bullseye” geophysical magnetic / gravity anomaly. One intersection was 180 metres. Proto elected to drill the target, LBD-1, to a depth of 751 metres, after exhaustive geophysical surveying and modelling and geological mapping at surface. The target was “Norilsk style” Nickel-Copper-PGE mineralisation within intrusive feeder conduits to the basalt flows of the Antrim Plateau Volcanics.

Drill core has now been transported to Darwin for processing with laboratory assay results expected to be available by early August. A hole re-entry is planned later in calendar 2009 to test for deeper mineralised extensions. Initial results underpin current campaign by NT Geological Survey to evolve an enhanced understanding of the geological provinces of the NT in a new review due end 2009. Lindeman’s Bore drilling backed by $100,000 of NT Government support.

Andrew Mortimer, Chairman and Managing Director of Proto, said the discovery is enormously significant "as we have proved the geological concept and we can now look to explore and define economic mineralisation."
