They have a profitable business worth 1.5 billion MC with a general 5 year trend of a SP increase. I would argue that is successful, they built share holder value. The same end goal we want.
As for BG vs IG this isn't a technical limitation rather a market decsion. They announced the following.
"proposed product mix is 17,500 tonne per annum Battery Grade lithium carbonate (>99.5%) from the existing purification circuit, and 25,000 tonne per annum Industrial Grade lithium carbonate (avg. 99.0%), of which ~9,000 tonne per annum will be used to feed the planned 10,000 tonne per annum lithium hydroxide plant in Japan".
No upgrade to existing process required.
