The obvious answer is he needs the cash right now.
The more interesting question is why NOVO agreed to the sale. Let's assume that NOVO are about to go full steam ahead with the JV, the last thing they want is to be held up while ARV scratches around trying to find the cash to keep up. If the Pilbara story is the real deal then the actions of KL/NOVO/ARV all make sense.
