Yes there were some examples highlighted during the Royal Commission which had me asking the obvious question, at what point does taking on to much debt become a personal responsibility? The increased regulation says perhaps never in Australia. If you can show your application did not tick every box, or applied blanket assumptions like what it sounds like in this case, you can wriggle out of a commitment if things go sour. Hopefully the company makes improvements as a result of this and just passes those costs on to the borrower.
