I also stand to lose a substantial amount if SAS fails. I highly recommend the book Market Wizards from the early 80s. It basically profiles and interviews some of the world's most famous traders at the time. A common theme was they almost all had a substantial loss which helped form their investment strategies going forward ensuring they do not ever get in such a situation again. While the SAS loss (if it fails) will be tough, it has taught me a very important lesson on investing.
