most businesses operate with a level of debt and depending on the type of company, gets rolled over every 1-5 years. i wouldn't say not repaying the debt is bad on its own, but that KDB not wanting to hang around at the original amount is not a good sign, plus you're right about the unsecured part being more expensive. in addition to the administrative costs and time of having to deal with two banks instead of one.
