IMO, the only way Australia could re-enter global manufacturing is by the re-introduction of tariffs. Not for the export of raw materials as our pay dirt is a cash cow, but for all products that include materials that could be be produced through vertical integration. There would be little difference to this approach to that of Federal Govt grants. A sliding scale on GST may be an option also.
