The reason is clearly stated in the announcement. RKDD034 was deliberately designed as a twin to RKDD008.
They need material to do metallurgical test work to assess the potential of recoveries of the minerals (nickel, copper, cobalt) from the ore. The drill core of RKDD034 will be sent to a metallurgical test lab to be milled down to a fine ore, and its properties for mineral processing assessed. This is a destructive process, hence the need for a twin hole (drill core for RKDD008 will remain intact and logged).
