SUM 03/04/2012 08:43 ASSET REL: 0843 HRS Summerset Group Holdings Limited ASSET: SUM: Summerset announces new village for Auckland Retirement village developer and operator Summerset has announced the purchase of a 7.6 hectare waterfront property in Hobsonville, Auckland. The company is awaiting OIO approval before completing the purchase which will see it secure the site, known locally as Monterey Park. The land will become the company's 18th site. Details of the village will be made public following the completion of the resource consent process. Summerset CEO Norah Barlow said the company had a mandate to expand into the Auckland region in order to cater for the area's aging population. "In addition to the already aging population, Auckland's population is growing faster than any other region in the country. "We see ourselves as a solution to both potential residents and the government in providing quality housing, lifestyle options and care," Mrs Barlow said. The village will benefit from the Auckland City Council's North West transformation project that will bring a range of modern amenities into the area as well as providing transport links with the wider city. The site sits opposite the Hobsonville Point housing development. "We look forward to providing the people of Hobsonville with a first class facility set in one of the most beautiful locations in the area." Monterey Park is a very special place. It is surrounded by water and has views to both the North and the East. It has been lovingly landscaped and has an important local history. We intend to maintain its character and develop thoughtfully and are looking at incorporating some of the historic characteristics into the village design," Mrs Barlow said. This includes the restoration of two category two historic buildings on the site. "We have a strong focus on growth. This purchase is another step towards reaching our target of delivering 250 units per annum within five years" Mrs Barlow said. Summerset will develop the village over a period of five to seven years with plans to offer a full continuum of care including independent villas and apartments, a village centre with recreation facilities and a care centre offering rest home and hospital level care.
