Pacific National (and competitor SCT, standing for Specialised Container Transport) Melbourne-Brisbane and vice versa intermodal trains are usually extremely well loaded as the rail transit time of a typical 32-36 hours, while slower than road's c.24-26, offers a significant cost saving and is more environmentally friendly. There are also no delays with rail akin to what truck drivers have been experiencing at state border checkpoints as Premiers like Andrews in Victoria continue to impose tough restrictions on some cross-border travel.
PN has been operating extra freights on this route so at times there may be an imbalance of loading.
This train was almost a 'special' for LAU with the sole container ('TEU') on 77 container flat wagons an LAU one. Extremely unusual!
It was videoed at Narara, between Gosford and Broadmeadow in NSW on the very scenic 'Short North' line to Newcastle Interchange, which from Broadmeadow becomes the north coast main line to Brisbane:
