Yes economics will override the environment. It’s unfortunate but that’s the way it is. The greens mantra is the other way around but that is not how the major parties operate.
If it gets to the point where margins are thin, productivity will take a back seat to profitability and mills will purchase lower grade ore again. No point maximising productivity if you are going to be selling at a loss.
