The NZ approval is for professional or self-test use...for authorised businesses/gov entities only. So the NZ distinction 'self-test' here is something that doesn't apply for 'home self-test' or 'consumer buying & using by themselves self-test'.

Essentially its these two info bits that you need to co-relate:

In NZ, any and all approved RATs are for above 'business' use only - they can use this to provide testing service to others (re: consumers) OR for their own 'self-use' (ie: own staff members, business safety practices, public entering their premises, FIFO workers etc).

NZ hasn't approved any RATs for consumers to purchase and use at home and report. Consumers still need to get a PCR test (or if there are 'lucky' to work in one of the above 'approved' industries + clinical settings, they will be provided/allowed to purchase RATs for 'self-test').

These 'self-tests' don't need to be administered by a 'professional' to the 'user'. Usually though, since its tied to the biz needing it, someone representing the biz will be monitoring/hosting the individual self-test usage & reporting to NZ Health
