When you run a business where you know what your Revenues (No. of Policyholders times Premiums) are going to be at the start of each financial period, but you will only learn what your Costs (Claims) where at the end of the financial period, then the best managers in the world aren't going to be of much use in preventing unpleasant earnings surprises from occurring.
