I have had a margin loan for years - but I don't really use it a lot for share gains. However, it is sometimes handy when a great announcement (usually mining) comes out and I don't have other cash to buy before a price surge.
I usually keep my debt to a minimum but hold enough shares to use the loan as a "line of credit" for such things as tax on capital gains (when I am fortunate enough for that to occur) or some special needs.
