Yes there has been a recent threat to the area. A very wide area and Mauritania was mentioned. However Mauritania had a lot of terror activity but then the country started to improve the communication, strategic alliances and built up their now good counter terror measures and since then have driven the hard core ones out of the country and now have bugger all issues. 
Mauritania now have almost 10years of counter terrorist measures experience and seem to have made plenty of deals with many countries and groups to deter and avoid this type of behaviour
