This is an example from about three weeks ago of the 'short train' from Melbourne to Port Pirie, South Australia that connects with a Sydney to Perth train.

It only has the equivalent of 12 and a half long (12.2 metre) containers, so in logistics terms, 25 TEU ('twenty foot equivalent units, or 6.1 metre smaller containers in the post-1973 lexicon).

Hardly worth operating, but it may be busier on the way back to Melbourne.

My guess is AZJ is doing OK (despite the poor economy) on the east-west route of Melbourne or Sydney to Perth, but there aren't sufficient videos to draw firm conclusions about the north-south Melbourne-Sydney-Brisbane and return trains.

However overall it must be losing money on these trains. Perhaps that was forecast. Obtaining additional clients apart from Team Global Express takes time. Poor consumer sentiment is not AZJ's fault: was this also baked into projections?
