This video is an example of the recently added second weekly AZJ Melbourne-Perth intermodal train (for Team Global Express) that departs on Tuesdays.
Of the 79 wagons/platforms ('platforms' refers to the so-called '5 pack' container wagons that are five container spaces permanently coupled), 24 (all at the rear) lacked containers.
So the 30.7 per cent of container slots vacant is not as good as we've previously seen. Whether this is a one-off, reflects how this new departure day of the week has to be bedded in as it slowly attracts more custom, or alternatively, it shows the downturn in shopper/consumer spending, I don't know:
As with any freight (or passenger) operator on any mode, loadings will vary from week to week. It'll be interesting to see if future trains have a similar amount of vacant wagons.
