It's not 'National Pacific', but 'Pacific National'.
Christine Holgate of TGE had commented that PN was being run 'like a monopoly' (although it wasn't, as it already had intermodal competition from unlisted rail operator SCT, plus to some extent listed QUB, and of course numerous road trucking companies as well as previously (not so much post-COVID) coastal shipping.
PN's rates per tonne-kilometre would have been high, at a semi-educated guess. That would be one reason why TGE switched to AZJ.
