As I remember this was the easy way we built mines in the 1970's through 2002. CIP* was becoming more common and we could target open pit oxide gold. Personal computing wasn't avaiable only in the later part calculators.
The difference was the gold price hadn't yet got to USD$450/ oz and grades were in the 2-5 g/t range. Now for this type of mine, the grade of 1g/t in surface free milling oxide ore is readily doable as long as one has the ability to operate in a relatively more exotic location like Cote D' Ivoire.
A little bit of retro is fine as it cuts the risk which is very important as I/we take a decent swing at this early stage.
