I believe that ABB customers skew towards high speed and hence the more expensive plans (certainly more so than the market average).
I believe that this aims to leverage their existing NBN infrastructure (mainly fixed cost) along with their existing tech stack (managing the whole back end process) without the presumably high cost high touch support that they provide.
Margins for buddy should not be significantly lower as it just leverages existing infrastructure and even though some of their customers may choose this option to save a few dollars, these customers were the most likely to churn so at least they retain them plus potentially attract others who associate their current reputation with their broader service.........well that I believe is the theory anyway, but it all comes down to execution and they are dealing with much bigger competitors so lets see how this plays out
