Production of hydrogen powered ships in Norway and India is underway. The change is coming. We will probably see it in international shipping before we do on the highways. (Due to the ease of implementing/supplementing fuel storage and delivery at ports). Price per kj of energy for diesel is closer to hydrogen than unleaded. (link)
