There a number of records that confirm that the Carrington lode was rich in gold (6-12 oz gold per ton) for 2-300ft from surface when the gold reduced and the rich copper sulphides cut in (5-10% copper over 0.5-1.5m wide). The copper sulphides had to be smelted or sent away as concentrates with about 50-56% copper in. The four large reverbatory furnaces set up to smelt the ore did not work very well. Three copper smelters were built to handle the copper sulphides. One mine retrieved a slab of solid copper over 8ft in length from the mine.

In 1934 there was a proposal to treat the estimated 50,000 to 60,000 tons of tailings from the Carrington mine using modern cyanide treatment which could not previously be treated to get the gold because they were rich in copper. There was thought to be £100,000 worth of gold to be obtained from the tailings implying a grade of about 15g/t gold (it was common to vat leach old tailings around this time to retrieve gold left behind in early gravity separation processing, in this case probably trapped in copper sulphides and may not have been easy to cyanide leach).

The New Queen lead, gold and silver lode was discovered in the 1950's and it was concentrated and sent away for further processing. The ore was 46% lead, 16dwt gold (about 25g/t) and 53 1/2 ounces of silver per ton with an average lode width of 8ft (over 2m). The tailings from the gravity processing battery assayed 14% lead, 1/2 ounce gold and 11 ounces of silver per ton.
