Some historical information on the Carrington's Lion and others associated with Liontown. The reference from 8 April 1905 confirms some of the mine names at Carrington Goldfield (Liontown). Note the high grade gold-copper lodes to just over 1m wide and near vertical traced down over 140m. The old miners only took the highest grade and recent drilling indicates some halo mineralisation giving a wider zone of interest in all lodes. The very high grade narrow lodes make a huge difference to overall grade and should not be ignored in drill results.

The Queenslander 4th March 1905 - Still the rush to Oakey Creek continues where the Carrington's Lion p.c. is yielding such good results. Raper and party in the No4. West got very good results. Carrington has about 4 1/2 tons on the wagon looking likely to go about 15oz per ton. Taylor and party, in the No.10, have sunk a hole about 10ft deep in fine formation. One of Carrington's veins is about 3ft wide. There is a small township out there.

The Queenslander 8th April 1905 - On Thursday half-day holiday (31 March) people visited the Carrington Goldfield and as a result shares have firmed. Carrington Lion p.c. sold at 6/10, Carrington's Excess Grounds at 2/8 and the No1. East and No2. East at 1/10. Crushings for the week ended 25th March 1905 Carrington Lion p.c. 26 tons for 303 oz 6dwt of gold worth £3/19/9 per ounce with residues to come. April 1 and reports from the Carrington Lion p.c. state that the lode at the bottom of the shaft is as rich as ever. No3. East company has been floated by Titmus covering 12 men's ground, the owners received £2400 and paid up shares. Miles and Co. floated the No2. West Lion Company to the west of the Carrington's Excess ground with a capital of £24,000 in shares of 5/ each. The owners receive £300 and 24,000 paid up shares, other monies go to the credit of the company. R.Hill and Co. have floated the No3. and No4. East Lion with a capital of £25,000. The owners of the ground receive £2000 in cash and 24,000 paid up shares. Mr A.Bowry floated the Pierce's Lone Hand today, the Lone Hand is a quartz reef 4 miles from Carrington. On April 4 R.Hill and Co. floated Carrington's Lion No5. East, the shares have been fully subscribed.

The Queenslander 22nd April 1905 - The Carrington Lion p.c. crushing of 51 tons yielded 348 oz of smelted gold and the residues will probably bring about 8oz per ton. Of this crushing 32 tons came from the shaft on the lode which is 24ft deep and the manager reports is 3ft to 4ft wide of crushing material.

The Queenslander 2nd June 1906 - The Carrington Lion p.c. crushed 250 tons for a returned value of £407 (with gold just over £3 per ounce this implies a grade over 1 oz/t or over 31g/t gold).

The Queenslander 10th August 1907 - The result of the bulk assay from 44 tons from Carrington's Lion No.1 and No.2 East shaft is: fine gold 2oz/t, copper 6.4%, silver 1oz/t. An advance of £6/15 per ton has been made and a further sum is forthcoming when the ore is realised in Germany. This return is highly satisfactory. The output from the development work is 100 tons monthly. The sinking of the vertical shaft is being continued, carrying 4 1/2 ft of gold bearing copper. The lode is nearly vertical. In the Carrington's Lion No.1 and No.2 East, the No.1 East drive at 300ft from the surface shows 2ft of good quality sulphide ore at 24ft from the shaft. This shaft was sunk near to the Western boundary so that all their ground lies to the east of the shaft. They have resumed sinking the shaft and at 376ft from the surface shows 4 1/2 ft of good quality ore. They have bagged and carted to the Charters Towers Railway Station 58 tons of ore with around 20 tons still at the mine.

The Bundaberg Mail and Burnett Advertiser 28th Nov 1908 - Mr Alfred Bowry, Chairman of the Carrington 1 and 2 East Gold and Copper Company, advises having despatched to the electrolytic works Port Kembla, 8 tons 13 cwt of copper matte assaying: copper 57.8%, gold 3oz 16 grains/t and silver 10 oz 15 dwt/t on which an advance of £550 has been received. The mine is opening up satisfactorily. The eastern level at a vertical depth of 460ft is 2 1/2ft of good gold and copper ore. The furnace has run without a hitch since smelting commenced.

The Queenslander 26th June 1909 - At the Carrington's Lion No.1 and No.2 East they are continuing to raise good quality copper ore from the lower levels. At the 460ft level they have 2 1/2 ft of good looking ore in the crosscut 100ft from the shaft. In the boundary stope near the shaft they have 4ft of fair ore. At the 360ft level they are stoping on 1ft of good looking stone. At the smelters for the past fortnight they treated 106 tons for a yield of 10 1/2 tons of matte estimated to contain 50% copper. Of this 7 tons have been shipped south and assays 2oz 15dwt 15 grains of gold per ton, 9oz 3dwt of silver per ton and 56% copper.
