A sales person from a competitor was offered a job, with an amount of potential sales commission discussed based on forecast/anticipated/possible sales revenue.
That revenue didn't eventuate, so the sales guy didn't make the commission he was hoping to make.
Sales guy submitted a claim for damages claiming he was enticed to join based on inflated sales estimates.
Claim was settled out of court, via a confidential agreement and release.
My take on what this all means is that entrepreneurs and alpha sales people are enthusiastic optimists - nothing new there and that type of mismatch between targets and outcomes is part and parcel of the sales world. In the US that mismatch can more easily end up in litigation
