Some further information on Perrigo....
Perrigo is the largest store brand OTC player in the US, with roughly 65% market share in the categories it competes through more than 9,000 SKU's under customer 'own brand' labels. It is a leading supplier of infant formula store brands in North America and recently acquired the US rights to Nestle's Good Start brand of infant formula. Additionally, Perrigo is a Top 5 OTC company by revenue in Europe, where it markets more than 200 branded OTC products throughout 28 countries.
Previously also a leader in generic prescription pharmaceuticals, Perrigo sold its RX division early last year. This division had focused on extended topical dosage forms, including creams, ointments, lotions and gels and had a long track record of launching first-to-file and first-to-market generic pharmaceutical products. Hence Perrigo has a wealth of regulatory experience.
Perrigo's customers include major global, national, and regional retail drug, supermarket, and mass merchandise chains such as Walmart, Costco, CVS, Target, Walgreens Boots Alliance, Kroger, Dollar General, Sam’s Club, Topco, e-commerce stores including Amazon, and major wholesalers, including McKesson, Amerisource Bergen, and Cardinal Health.
These customers are offered self-care products, sold either under their own brands or Perrigo’s brands, which compare in quality and effectiveness, but cost less, than nationally advertised brand name products. Products are sold to consumers in store at shelf, store pickup and online.
Perrigo’s pain products are mostly oral formulations, with a particular focus on ibuprofen. The exception to this is an OTC topical diclofenac gel formulation, which was launched in late 2020.
Also in 2020, Perrigo entered into the CBD market through a strategic investment in and long-term supply agreement with Kazmira, a leading supplier of hemp-based, CBD products free of THC. Their plan was to first scale up Kazmira’s facilities and laboratories, in accordance with GMP. The second phase of the plan was for Perrigo to launch zero-THC, hemp-based CBD products in a number of global markets, while leveraging its supply agreement with Kazmira, which is exclusive for the U.S. store brand market.
