Yep, its a trifle glib. But if you scrape away the gloss underneath money the company has borrowed money to hire sales people to try and grow sales. Spending on the staff will result in a bigger loss which may cause problems if expected revenue is missed.
Contrast that with an alternative strategy of growing revenues and then reinvesting the earnings in growing sales people. Any losses are then discretionary.
