Geraldton has rough crime statistics, but it doesn't mean everyone who lives there is a drug user or a bad person.
Likewise, it isn't our shareholder rights supporting disadvantaged people, it is banks, government loan facilities, and investors, both private and institutional, wanting their investment dollars to do some good in the world as well as turn a profit. I would be really proud if my AVL investment employed disadvantaged people.
I am also certain that the AVL team haven't just chosen Tenindewa for that reason, I'm certain in the millions of dollars TMT and AVL have spent on studies has assured them that the extra trucking costs are offset by other savings such as labour, water, gas etc.
At a guess I would say 90% of AVL posters on HC are not employed in the mining sector, and as such would be silly to think a few hours on the weekend running numbers, will deliver something more finite than what AVL, TMT, Wood group etc. have managed.
It is in AVL's best interests to look at social procurement and hiring, whether shareholder's political views align with that or not. The world is changing.
I would bet my bottom dollar NAIF are licking their lips at local employment in Geraldton.
