There is a pyschological effect when big players declare interest. Other smaller players, who dont think they can win a bidding war against an elephant, dont even try and walk away.These guys stood up and stamped the ground hard, declaring their space and their willingness to fight for it.

The smaller players almost declare it lost from the start because they cant get in the clinches with someone they are underweight against who also appears publically determined as well. After all, this company is prepared to put its name out there, so they are also confident of succeeding, how could we win?

Just more gamesmanship in the end.
