According to the latest reports from foreign media, the German government will provide 1 billion euros to the three battery alliance organizations to reduce the dependence of automakers on Asian battery manufacturers. At the same time, Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt announced the completion of a $1 billion financing to establish Europe's first lithium-ion battery super factory in Selefteo, Sweden. In addition, Northvolt will also establish a battery joint venture with Volkswagen Group and establish a super battery factory in Germany. In addition, the Peugeot Citroen Group (PSA) has announced that it will begin assembling batteries for its hybrid and electric vehicles at its Trnava plant in Slovakia, and will also assemble batteries at its Vigo plant in Spain. It seems that European manufacturers intend to gradually take the dominance of battery supply in their own hands, they have begun to launch counterattacks.

Governments have invested heavily in supporting local industries

In the German government's view, ensuring the stability of the regional supply chain for electric vehicles will help Germany achieve the EU's goal of reducing carbon emissions and reducing fossil fuel consumption, and help European automakers gain more initiative and enhance local batteries. Manufacturers compete with Asian competitors Ningde era, LG Chem, Samsung SDI and other companies.

"It can be revealed that there are more than one battery alliance (funded), and there may be three." German Economy Minister Pete Altmeyer said.

Altmeier did not specify which three battery alliances, but it is understood that in order to compete with Asian battery manufacturers, in October 2017, the EU announced the start of the battery industry alliance, Volkswagen, BMW, Daimler, Renault, Siemens, BASF, Solvay, Northvolt and other manufacturers have joined. In May last year, German Chancellor Merkel called on German manufacturers to increase the production of electric vehicle batteries in Europe and support local production.
