im sure things are as you say. no doubt the ghosts of dubious exploits past are partly to blame for colouring against the true state of things. But i also have the impression the crafty actions have generally been at local and provincial levels - while the virtue signalling is good at national level. same as everywhere pretty much
i dont think its anything indonesian specific - its just humans everywhere - lower general wealth in a place - the more snake makery there tends to be when locals see 'rich' foreigners coming in
