I don't think you can dismiss this as just a pissing competition between Trump and Ji, though I believe you're right that this could easily spiral into WW3. There's a ton of money on the line for the ruling elites of both countries, but more importantly, its about which country (and their allies) run the world from now on. That's why the situation is so dangerous IMO. Rudd could be right, and the world might very well be caught up in the Thucydides trap. Really scary times.
