re: Ann: AXX: ACCC declares wholesale ADSL, c... This declaration by ACCC on wholesale ADSL restricts the level of profitability Telstra has enjoyed from its national ADSL network. In isolation, it looks to be a negative development for Telstra. But in the context of the NBN-Telstra deal, this restriction is temporary (as NBN will make ADSL obsolete) and has been generously compensated by the deal.

One of the three key reasons given by ACCC for this declaration is that the roll-out of NBN will make copper-based infrastructure to be redundant.

So by declaring this wholesale ADSL, ACCC indirectly also declares the redundancy of copper-based infrastructure in the near future. And that means its formal approval to the NBN-Telstra deal will be announced soon!
