I'm not really sure how you judge this to be niche market. The cancer it's targeting are not orphan disease only affecting very few.
Also if you look at the history the potential return for treatments for very common non-niche ailments are fairly low and sometimes vanish altogether as these kind of ailments face a lot of pressure to be prevented or even completely eliminated; how much return is there likely to be got any new typhoid or polio (very non-niche once-up-on-a-time) treatments?
