President Hakainde Hichilema (President of Zambia) commented:
"Agriculture. Very important. Food security. In our countries, with the climate change, the need for us to water harvest, to irrigate — precision irrigation — to increase our productivity per hectare of land we have so we don’t cut more trees to create fields. But for the same hectare, instead of producing, I’d say, corn, two tons per hectare, we can move to 12, 13, 14, 15 tons per hectare. This corridor delivers benefits in those areas".

I posted some time ago (can't find it now), that one of our non-executive directors was on the board of directors for Zambia Sugar PLC way back in 2001 and 2002. He will obviously be well connected in the region. With the Lobito Corridor aiding transportation of our product, it wouldn't be surprised if we ended up exporting to Zambia for their very large sugar plantations. How else would President Hichilema expect the Lobito Corridor to increase crop yeilds from 2 tons per hectar to 15 tones if it wasn't transporting some form of fertiliser? Locally produced and much more affordable fertiliser...
