another one for you@burst, this one from the asx... page 38 lists potential risks of HFT on the market - my original post on the matter above, which did not give the full picture of what HFT does - is talked about there - momentum algorithms... the document here is dated 2010, I cannot find a more recent document from the ASX and their stated action to the effect of momentum algorithms was to "assess the need for the use of controls (such as circuit breakers) in the event that significant price distortion is seen to occur"
