My understanding is you will need to wait until the administrators declare there is no chance of any recovery for the shareholders. If there are any legal cases started then that may mean a long wait. I am no expert though and only learnt the hard way myself once.
I had a company go bust in 1996 (Stanilite Pacific) and could not declare a loss until 2008 (which was as useful as a poke in the eye in that year). After that I always learnt to cut my losses if there was any signs of a company not making it out the other side of a rough patch, as the losses can be very valuable.
