yep the older l get the more l favour etf's Jack Bogle's book on Common Sense investing (free on you tube) pretty much parrots Scott Pape however Jack pushes bonds and shares jointly. if you don't need immediate income from your smsf l don't purchase Au etf's instead favour US or Asian etfs, while the income is non existent the capital growth is outstanding. have a look at the 10yr+ charts for IVV (buffets pick) VTS and IAA etc. there are various factors to also consider such as 1) exchange rates 2) weighting of banks in Au index funds etc. but you cannot go wrong. A key theme l guess was that Bogle Graham and Buffet all make extensive use of non share investments to smooth the journey. buffet recommends that investors use etfs rather than invest in shares directly in his newsletters. cheers
