For those not familiar with Transmission Gully (which is likely to be pretty much anyone outside NZ), it is a $1b roading contract that the NZ government signed and realigns the exisitng state highway 1 inland north of Wellington. The existing road is one lane each way, would be difficult to widen and is easily blocked by accidents (and is also likely to be blocked in a large earthquake). Transmission gully is a big, complex project that went over-budget but also involved a public-private relationship where the developer would build and maintain the road for a period of time before ownership passed back to the NZ government.
The project was orginally a $850m contract but cost over-run's on the project have had the developer seeking extra money from the NZ government (Current cost estimates are $1.25b). Some of these cost overrun have been agreed. There will have been a lot behind the scene's legal work for this contract and the multiple additional compensation claims.

The sort of law firm who engages on $1b projects like this is likely to be well positioned to provide the advice Ecograf needs for its expansion plans (although this advice may not be cheap).
